My Story, My Journey

Inspiring & Embracing New Faces of Conservation 

Dr. Mamie Parker is the Former Assistant Director of Fisheries and Habitat Conservation at the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the first african american to serve as regional director in the FWS.

Her story is an important one to hear and her storytelling abilities about overcoming many obstacles as a daughter of a single mother of 11 children will leave you motivated and inspired to do more.

She is a powerful speaker. One of her speeches she delivered to high school students in Baltimore led to the creation of the Mamie Parker Journey: Inspiring Youth to Embrace the Chesapeake–a speaker series developed through the Chesapeake Conservancy. Through this initiative, she was able to expose young people in the city to career options in environmental science and studies.

About Mamie Parker

President of Ma Parker and Associates and a current board member of the Chesapeake Conservancy, Dr. Mamie Parker is a well-known fish and wildlife biologist and distinguished environmental motivational speaker.

Dr. Mamie Parker is the former Assistant Director of Fisheries and Habitat Conservation at the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). Prior to this position, she made history when appointed the first African American the FWS Regional Director of the 13 Northeastern states.

Complementary to the Baltimore Wilderness Initiative, the Conservancy has launched the Mamie Parker Journey: Inspiring Youth to Embrace the Chesapeake speaker series. The goal of this series is to engage students in the Baltimore area and encourage them to experience the Chesapeake Bay watershed through facilities such as the Masonville Cove Urban Wildlife Refuge. In speaking to students across the city, Mamie also hopes to expose them to career options in environmental science and environmental studies.

Dr. Parker has an extensive amount of experience as a fish and wildlife biologist and an executive. She is an author in the American Fisheries Society’s most recently released book entitled “The Future of Fisheries”. Dr. Parker is a leader in various organizations and serves as a Board of Directors of the National Wildlife Refuge Association; Defenders of Wildlife; and the Chesapeake Conservation Partnership Steering Committee.

Dr. Parker has spoken to millions of listeners on the Steve Harvey Show and Stand Up with Pete Dominick on Sirius Radio. She has been the keynote speaker for conferences and events throughout the country. Dr. Parker is a leader in various organizations and serves as a Board of Directors of the National Wildlife Refuge Association, Defenders of Wildlife, and the Chesapeake Conservation Partnership Steering Committee.
