Turkey Hill Dairy Helps Lancaster Farmland Trust Save Farm

01/27/2017

As part of an innovative community partnership, Turkey Hill Dairy recently donated $42,500 to Lancaster Farmland Trust through its Preserve a Farm program. The program matched donations up to $42,500. Donations were made by fans on Turkey Hill’s website. The Trust used the funds raised to preserve a 63-acre Amish farm in East Lampeter Township.

The Preserve a Farm initiative was launched in 2016 as part of Turkey Hill’s 85th anniversary celebration. “Turkey Hill Dairy relies on the hard work of Lancaster County farmers to supply ingredients used in our products,” said John Cox, Turkey Hill Dairy President. “As Lancaster County struggles with the increasing pressure of development, communities are recognizing that new growth does not have to come at the expense of farmland.”

The original goal of the Preserve a Farm program was to raise a total of $85,000, with Turkey Hill contributing half of the total ($42,500); however, the project received overwhelming interest from fans and farmland preservation supporters and exceeded the goal by raising over $90,000.

“The Trust is grateful to Turkey Hill Dairy for their steadfast support of farmland preservation efforts,” said Karen Martynick, executive director of Lancaster Farmland Trust. “Turkey Hill is committed to the local community and has demonstrated that commitment through this remarkable partnership with the Trust.”
