Natural Lands Trust, Inc. is pleased to announce the addition of a Stewardship Assistant at Stoneleigh: A Natural Garden. The Stewardship Assistant is responsible for assisting Stoneleigh staff on land and Building Stewardship responsibilities. Duties will include land and garden management activities and maintenance of equipment, roads, and structures. The Stewardship Assistant will be required to physically perform, as needed, any and all tasks necessary for the maintenance of Stoneleigh and to occasionally work weekends, evenings, and holidays as requested. Stoneleigh will be the primary work location, though this position may also serve from time to time at any of our other NLT locations.

Job Responsibilities:
To succeed in the role of Stewardship Assistant, the individual must be highly motivated, responsible, reliable and able to work independently, with little supervision. He or she must have a customer service attitude, display flexibility when work assignments are altered, demonstrate professionalism at all times and have an aptitude for injecting positive energy and good humor into work and social situations. Job tasks will include assisting with the establishment and maintenance of an historic public garden on an estate; conversion of turf grass to wildflower meadow; restoration of degraded natural areas; and maintenance and refreshment of garden displays; monitoring preserve lands and boundaries for vandalism or inappropriate use, meadow/lawn mowing and trail/road maintenance with lawn and farm tractors, assisting with preserve events and membership activities, fire prevention, assisting with building repairs, trash collection within the preserves and along public roads, maintenance and operation of equipment owned by NLT including farm tractors, commercial mowers, chainsaws, and other preserve maintenance equipment, restoration of degraded natural areas, and conducting bird census.

Qualifications:
We seek candidates with a Bachelors degree in Natural Resource Management or Horticulture or a related field or equivalent experience, who are experienced in the safe use and maintenance of hand and power tools and equipment maintenance. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and electronic communications is required. Experience as a prescribed fire crew member is a plus.
The Stewardship Assistant will be required to perform a wide array of physically demanding tasks, such as lifting and carrying up to 50lbs., working in all kinds of weather and walking over uneven terrain, as necessary for the maintenance of the various preserves. The Stewardship Assistant may also be asked to work occasional evenings or weekends. Regular and consistent attendance is required. The successful candidate must have and maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing. Personal transportation is required.

Benefits:
The compensation package for the Stewardship Assistant position will include a salary in the low $30,000 range, depending on experience, plus an outstanding benefits package, including paid medical, dental, disability and life insurance; eligibility for retirement savings; paid sick and vacation time and holidays.
