French & Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust is seeking a full-time Preserve Manager to be a critical member of our team in Phoenixville, PA. If you are equally at home working with people and the land, with a track record of increasing responsibility and consistent accomplishments, we want to hear from you. If excellent communication, the ability to problem-solve, a passion for preservation with a positive attitude, flexibility and a sense of humor come naturally, then we have an amazing opportunity for you: to live on the Thomas P. Bentley Nature Preserve (Preserve) and work with like-minded people.

The Preserve Manager will work independently and as part of a team, maintain French & Pickering’s capital assets, demonstrate a strong work ethic, and have confident command of natural resource management principles and practices. A proactive thinker and positive problem solver who can prioritize multiple tasks and is committed to the organization’s mission will thrive in this job. The ability to routinely complete physically challenging tasks while representing the organization to internal and external partners in a way that generates support is critical. Job duties include maintaining the preserves; recruiting and supervising volunteers; securing permits; supervising contractors; and assisting with land management planning and implementation. The Preserve Manager also coordinates and assists with French and Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust events including: second Sunday hikes; contributing content for electronic and print media outreach; securing funds for medium- and long-term land management projects; and project oversight and reporting. In addition to these technical skills, a sense of humor and the ability to remain positive and see the opportunity presented by unexpected challenges is necessary.

A Bachelor’s degree in natural resource management or a related field, relevant experience, proficiency in all aspects of Microsoft Office and ArcGIS, and demonstrated ability to consistently meet or exceed expectations is required. A desire and demonstrated ability to identify and address personal knowledge gaps; to learn on the job; and to cultivate sources of knowledge, expertise and skill are also required. Someone with experience managing and developing volunteer programs who will live in French & Pickering-provided housing on the Preserve is preferred. French & Pickering offers competitive compensation and the opportunity to be part of a dedicated team for someone who loves the outdoors and believes in celebrating and protecting the exceptional resources and quality of life in northern Chester County. Working a flextime schedule is required to coordinate, supervise and participate in programs and outreach activities that take place outside the standard workday. Interested applicants should submit a resume with references and cover letter to bgladden@frenchandpickering.org with the subject line “Application Preserve Manager”.
