The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, a regional non-profit organization based in Annapolis, MD with offices in Virginia and Pennsylvania, seeks a creative and energetic person to serve as the Director of our Pennsylvania office and provide leadership for Alliance programs and projects in Pennsylvania.

Job Description

The Pennsylvania State Director oversees the staff, programs and operations of the PA office. The Director is a key member of the Alliance Management Team and works directly with the Executive Director to advance the Alliance’s strategic goals. The State Director conducts outreach and builds relationships with key individuals, organizations and agencies in Pennsylvania in order to facilitate the accomplishment of the Alliance mission to inspire local action to restore and protect the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The State Director manages specific projects including proposal writing, project design and implementation, billing/invoicing and ensuring the quality of work and deliverables. The State Director serves as a key spokesperson for the Alliance in Pennsylvania and makes presentations, writes reports, and prepares fact sheets and promotional materials.

Expertise and Skills

The successful candidate will have demonstrated project and program management experience, staff supervision skills, and strong leadership capabilities. The Director must be dynamic, creative, and goal oriented, have a general knowledge of Chesapeake Bay and/or watershed issues and solutions, and superior communications skills.

Experience is desirable in working with a variety of stakeholders in a professional setting, including (not limited to):
Local government employees, elected officials, businesses, private landowners, academic institutions, local and regional watershed or conservation groups, and volunteers. A successful track record of forging partnerships, successful grant proposal writing and /or fundraising, and experience with staff, financial and administrative management operations is desirable.

Knowledge of Pennsylvania local government structure:
Environmental responsibilities stemming from both the State and Chesapeake Bay Program goals and strategies, and Chesapeake Bay issues and their relation to PA land use and local waterways is desirable.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have at least a Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of increasingly responsible positions with comparable responsibilities.

Primary duties of the Position include

• Provide leadership, operational direction, and mentoring of PA programs and staff.
• Manage multiple complex environmental protection and restoration projects.
• Build and maintain a diverse array of professional partnerships associated with the environmental, political, development, science, and business communities in Pennsylvania and the Chesapeake Bay Watershed
• Lead and collaborate with others on the development of state, federal, foundation and other initiatives and grants.
• Manage project budgets, workloads, and reporting needs to ensure objectives, goals, and deliverables are met in a timely fashion.
• Serve as a spokesperson in Pennsylvania for the Alliance mission, goals, and programs.
• Support the Alliance and Board in development, fundraising and strategic planning efforts.

About the Alliance

The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay was founded in 1971. Since its beginning, the Alliance has been in the forefront of restoration efforts in the watershed. The Alliance’s core mission is to protect and restore the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers by building partnerships, engaging communities to find collaborative solutions, and connecting people to the Bay and its rivers. The Alliance also leads a wide array of on-the-ground restoration projects.

Details

Type of Position: Full time (40 hours weekly), with some flexibility for work at home. Requires working some nights and/or weekends depending on established project deliverables.

Supervision: The PA State Director will report to the Alliance Executive Director.

Office Location: 3310 Market St. Suite A, Camp Hill, PA 17011

Salary range: $60,000+ Commensurate with experience. Benefit options available.
