Title: Pennsylvania Coldwater Habitat Restoration Program – Habitat Coordinator

Trout Unlimited’s Pennsylvania Coldwater Habitat Restoration Program seeks a Habitat Coordinator to plan and implement projects to reconnect and restore Coldwater habitat with a focus on Eastern brook trout streams across the Keystone State. Project types may include culvert replacements, stream bank stabilization, in-stream habitat and riparian reforestation, and dirt and gravel road improvements.
This is a full‐time position based out of TU’s Lock Haven field office, although telecommuting may be considered. Since approximately 40% of the funding to support this position is from the Center for Dirt and Gravel Road Studies at Penn State University, additional coordination of work tasks will be required with the Center, along with conservation districts and municipalities across Pennsylvania.
The work at times may be physically demanding and involve travel to remote areas. Overnight travel is required with up to 50% travel, particularly during the construction season, which generally runs from April to November. The position may also require involvement with meetings or projects during evenings and weekends, especially when working with volunteer groups. The salary is commensurate with experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Habitat Coordinator with the Pennsylvania Coldwater Habitat Restoration Program will:
• Coordinate all aspects of project implementation such as project design and permitting, budgeting, scheduling, preparation of bid packages, construction oversight, and inspections.
• Coordinate with the Penn State University Center for Dirt and Gravel Road Studies and conservation districts to provide technical assistance, planning, and oversight on stream crossing installation through the Pennsylvania Dirt, Gravel, and Low‐Volume Road Maintenance Program.
• Provide culvert assessment training for conservation professionals and partners, as well as organize training workshops that focus on culvert installation construction and best management practices.
• Coordinate data collection efforts of volunteers, interns, and other partners for culvert assessments.
• Assist with project identification and developing new partnerships, as well as fundraising, identifying potential funding sources, and drafting grant proposals.
• Provide technical assistance to private landowners and other stakeholders through site assessments, design and permitting, and overall project coordination for riparian reforestation, streambank stabilization, and other projects to reduce sediment pollution and enhance fish habitat.
• Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
• A minimum of a B.S. in hydrology, geomorphology, environmental engineering, fisheries biology, or related discipline.
• Ability to work with multiple and diverse partners in a highly collaborative and inclusive manner, as well as independently, to successfully plan and complete projects.
• Experience with culvert replacement, bank stabilization, and fish habitat projects.
• Experience with construction and contractor oversight.
• Experience with ESRI ArcGIS and CAD software programs preferred.
• Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Excellent time‐management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
• Self‐motivated with creative thinking and problem‐solving skills.
• A passion for conservation and for protecting and restoring native trout and their watersheds.
