POSITION SUMMARY

The River Restoration Intern will assist with the development of reports, fact sheets, videos, photos and other materials for American Rivers’ Restoration Resource Center online. Subject matter of materials will range from general river restoration to dam removal, floodplain restoration, and road-stream crossing retrofits. The intern may write river restoration blogs and social media posts, or conduct podcast interviews on assigned topics of interest or ongoing American Rivers projects.

The intern will be invited to attend meetings on Restoration Program projects in the Chesapeake Bay Region, may conduct background research on potential projects, and will learn about the process of river restoration from staff. The intern will also assist with other River Restoration Team projects, as needed, and during the course of the internship will learn about how rivers are restored and help develop products to promote river restoration on the American Rivers website.

American Rivers’ Restoration Team is a dynamic group of conservation professionals who will provide an interesting glimpse into the world of river restoration for a motivated, enthusiastic person!

INTERN QUALIFICATIONS

• High school completion required, with preference given to current college students;
• Good writing skills are required, as is experience using Microsoft Office products, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
• Experience in the area of Communications, Marketing, or Graphic Design would be beneficial;
• Some environmental background is both beneficial and preferable.

TIME COMMITMENT AND PAY

American Rivers’ summer 2017 internships will begin on June 5, 2017 and last for 10 weeks, ending on or around August 11, 2017. The River Restoration Intern requires a commitment of at least 25 hours per week. Internships are unpaid; however, a travel subsidy of $5 per day is available to help offset the costs of the intern’s commute. In addition to the travel subsidy, where available we will work with the intern to gain school credit.
