Natural Lands is a non-profit organization that saves open space, cares for nature, and connects people to the outdoors in eastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey. We’ve been at it since the early 1950s and, today, more than 2.5 million people live within five miles of lands under our permanent protection. Our Conservation Services Department advances the efforts of individuals and municipalities to preserve and steward open space using a variety of innovative methods.
Natural Lands is pleased to announce a new position in our Conservation Services Department. The Director of Urban Programs will be responsible for the coordination and oversight of existing urban initiatives in four communities: Coatesville, Pottstown, Chester and Norristown. As such, he or she will serve as the primary relationship manager for Natural Lands with municipal officials, funding agencies, community groups and citizens; advancing conservation and greening projects by identifying opportunities and developing local support and grant funding, and assisting with the implementation of the projects by other Natural Lands professionals.
The successful candidate should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in planning, landscape architecture, public policy, public administration or a related field, with five years’ work experience in urban settings. He or she must have a demonstrated ability to move planning and or conservation projects from inception to completion. Experience with writing and administering state and federal grants for urban/disadvantaged communities, experience facilitating public discussions and experience managing teams will be important. This individual should have a natural affinity for establishing and maintaining professional relationships in order to advance organizational goals and a willingness and ability to assist and work with a wide variety of people.
