If you have a favorite trail and think that it is the best in the state, nominate it for this prestigious award. The designation is coordinated by DCNR’s Pennsylvania Trails Advisory Committee to elevate public awareness of the thousands of miles of trails available for public enjoyment in Pennsylvania.
To honor the 2016 Trail of the Year, the advisory committee and DCNR will create a commemorative poster for statewide distribution. Check out the new poster for the 2015 Trail of the Year.

2016 Trails Advisory Committee members due November 6. The Pennsylvania Trails Advisory Committee is charged with implementing the recommendations of the Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan to develop a statewide land and water trail network to facilitate recreation, transportation, and healthy lifestyles.
Members are appointed for three-year terms beginning January 1, 2016. The 20-member DCNR-appointed committee represents both motorized and non-motorized trail users and advises the Commonwealth on the use of state and federal trail funding. The six positions currently open are: bicycling, trail builders, off-highway motorcycling, hiking, and member at large (2).

2016 River of the Year due October 23.
Non-profit organizations are invited to nominate waterways for the 2016 River of the Year program. The nomination period is open until October 23, and will be followed by a public voting process to determine the winning waterway.
The winner of the River of the Year designation will receive a $10,000 leadership grant to help fund a year-round schedule of activities to celebrate the waterway and bring attention to Pennsylvania’s rich natural resource heritage.
