The Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Forest Service, is currently accepting applications for three (3) Watershed Forester positions. One position, is located at the Western Regional Office near Rocky Gap State Park, will support forest management planning and landscape-scale planning/forest health assessment around three drinking water reservoirs through a MD/PA partnership, including The Nature Conservancy. The other two positions located at the Indian Springs Wildlife Management Area and the Madonna Ranger Station in Jarrettsville, Maryland, will work with landowners and conservation programs including Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) to increase riparian forest buffer planting and other conservation practices. Work includes collecting forest inventory data, developing recommendations for management of forest stands, developing planting plans for buffers and other tree planting, invasive species control and recommendations, wildlife habitat improvement projects, outreach to landowners and organizations, and working with other local, state, and federal agencies to carry out projects. Other activities may include assisting with Backyard Buffers program and data collection in long-term buffer monitoring sites.
