Description:
The Baltimore County Department of Environmental Protection & Sustainability (EPS) has an opening for an Environmental Projects Worker (EPW) in the Community Reforestation Program (CRP). The EPW position is year-round, 39 hours per week, non-merit system classified. The CRP involves site preparation, planting, monitoring, and maintenance of reforestation projects across the County as mitigation for forest loss pursuant to the MD Forest Conservation Act and the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area Act. The EPW staff work at the EPS reforestation nursery located in the Chase community in eastern Baltimore County. Employees report to the nursery M-F, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM. All travel to reforestation sites is via County vehicles.Requirements:
• Completion of a High School Diploma or GED• Ability to perform moderate to strenuous work outdoors, year-round
• Must complete County physical exam and background employment check
• MD Class C Driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
• Interest in nature, forestry, or horticulture, and in making a difference for ecosystem health and communities
• Experience using hand and power tools for planting and pruning trees, and maintaining lawns or fields, including the use of commercial mowers or tractors
• Experience doing reforestation, invasive weeds suppression, nursery care, or grounds maintenance
• Ability to work effectively as part of a small team, to follow directions, and to assume responsibility for individual productivity
• AA/BS degree in biology, environmental science, forestry, horticulture, or related
• Experience using Microsoft Office Word and Excel
• MD Pesticide Applicator’s certificate (Forestry)
• MD CDL License
