Teach and lead ANS environmental education programs including School Programs, Afterschool Nature Clubs, Nature Birthday Parties, Scouts, School’s Out Nature Camps, and other special events throughout the Northern Virginia metro area. Most programs are led individually; leader is responsible for organizing materials, setting up room, leading program and cleaning room after the program. Some programs take place entirely outside and include the use of live animals. This position is based out of the Rust Nature Sanctuary in Leesburg, VA.

Requirements

Experience working with young children a must (Ages 3-11)
Experience leading or assisting informal environmental education lessons/programs
Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
Must pass FBI and State of Virginia Background Check
Desired Qualities

Experience with natural history of Virginia
Experience working/teaching in an outdoor setting
Experience handling live animals
Ability to work independently
Outgoing and friendly
Organized and ability to multitask
Excellent communication skills
CPR/First Aid Certified (or the ability to become within 1 month of hire)
General Schedule

This is a contract position. Contract Naturalists are contacted on an as needed basis for programs during the week and over the weekend. Flexible and seasonal scheduling averages 2-15 hours/week in the Spring, Summer, and Fall; 2-15 hours/month in the Winter. Programs may take place between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Casual, friendly work environment.

Pay
$30 for a 1 hr program , $35 for a 1.5 hour program and $40 dollars for a two hour program (pay is per program and includes prep time and clean up time after the program). This position does not offer additional benefits.
