Our six-person Communications team is focused on building the communication capacity of land trusts while using the Alliance’s communication channels to build public support and political influence for land conservation. At the same time, we work to elevate and promote the work of the Alliance and its programs to our members, funders and other key stakeholders.
Summary Description
This position requires four to six years of hands-on communications and marketing experience in a non-profit, association, public relations, congressional or agency environment. Experience with marketing or public awareness campaigns is desired, and the preferred candidate will have an understanding of cause marketing partnerships. The ideal candidate will have exceptional written and oral communication skills, along with an ability to manage independently multiple planned and special projects along with the core components of concurrent communication campaigns. The ability to do some design work using the Adobe creative suite, such as for document templates or PowerPoint presentations, is ideal. Knowledge of land conservation issues is preferred but not required. Strategic thinking, political savvy and creative development experience is essential. Must have a sincere interest and commitment to the Alliance’s conservation mission.Join a growing and successful organization that supports a network of 1,000 land trusts. Responsibilities:
Develop cost-effective strategies that raise the national profile of the Alliance and its members Write, edit and disseminate a wide variety of products including brochures, fact sheets, reports, ad copy, web posts, emails, social media posts, blog posts, briefing packets, articles and other marketing materials
Lead marketing and outreach for Alliance programs and projects, including setting and implementing strategies, overseeing campaign budgets and timelines, and coordinating with Alliance staff and outside vendors
Complete simple design projects using InDesign/Photoshop, such as importing content to existing templates, revising templates or creating original PowerPoint or Word designs
Provide strategic guidance and counsel to Alliance staff and members on how communications can help support their goals and initiatives
Coach/train Alliance staff and members in communication skills
Maintain a working knowledge of all program areas and identify opportunity to promote the Alliance’s work to target audiences
Promote curriculum and training materials to the land trust community
Help track costs, compile budget figures, research and develop project budgets
Maintain and improve internal and external communication systems
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications studies or natural resources
4 to 6 years’ experience in communications and marketing
3 years’ progressive experience managing projects
Proven ability to promote projects and track outcomes and impact
Strategic and creative thinker, with an ability to develop and implement plans
Exceptional writing and oral communication skills, with an ability to adjust writing style to different markets and for different purposes; public speaking/training experience a plus
Demonstrated initiative, including an ability to work both independently and with others
Immaculate attention to detail, rules of style and grammar (AP style)
Experience working under deadline in a fast-paced environment
Flexible team member, sense of humor and a cheerful ability to work quickly and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced, nonprofit work culture
Experience developing marketing plans and budgets
Experience planning and supervising marketing collateral production, including design, print and mailing processes
Experience working with corporate marketing partnerships
Experience with multiple-vendor coordination and supervision
Outgoing person who enjoys telephone and personal outreach
Knowledge of the internet and familiarity with a range of software, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and project management applications, as well as database (iMIS) and email programs (Informz); familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and WordPress desirable
