Open spaces are still open, but what if you can’t leave home? We know that nature is a respite from the worry and uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, but not everyone is able to seek out open space at this time. That’s why PALTA’s member land trusts are bringing nature to you! We’ve compiled a list of fun activities and virtual events that are being offered by some of our member organizations – check them out below!
The Nature Conservancy – Pennsylvania Chapter is holding a Virtual Coffee Series every Wednesday at 10:00am in partnership with The Nature Conservancy – Delaware Chapter. Natural Lands invites you to join them on social media, where they will bring nature to you with images of their preserves and Stoneleigh, and where they will also be expanding the #virtualnature experience through live streaming,video, virtual hikes, and ask-an-expert online conversations. Take in the beauty of the Brandywine River as shared by The Brandywine Conservancy’s Facebook page for peaceful videos of the Brandywine River, or if you’re looking to do some yard work while stuck at home, learn about tackling invasive plant species from their latest blog post.
Want to utilize nature’s classroom? Wildlands Conservancy has put together a Backyard Conservation Bingo for a fun and educational activity to learn more about nature that’s often found right in our backyard.
Take a virtual stroll of history through Chestnut Hill Conservancy’s History at Home feature and explore illustrated stories, archives, photo collections, and read about Chestnut Hill’s social and architectural history. Also check out the coloring book pages featuring historic sites of the Chestnut Hill Architectural Hall of Fame that are available to print for free!
Have a preschooler at home? Berks Nature is hosting a virtual circle time every weekday morning at 10:00am. Check it out on their Facebook page.
French Creek Valley Conservancy’s is offering some fun word search puzzles, coloring pages, as well as films that were featured during their Woods & Waters film series that can be found on their Facebook page.
Western Pennsylvania Conservancy is offering a bird habitat scavenger hunt! Have fun in your backyard or at a park while trying to identify as many features of bird habitat as you can.
